Spongebob annoys Squidward, and Squidward hates it!!! But sometimes Squidward admits to himself (SECRETLY) that Spongebob is kinda funny and the only person who wants to hang out with him. But he can never tell anyone. While Spongebob is loud and proud with his love for his best friend!!!

The s6e23 episode “Truth or Square” depicts a timeline in which Squidward has been working at the Krusty Krab since before Spongebob was born. If Mr. Krabs hires underpaid teenagers, that means Squidward is at least 14+ years older than Spongebob.

In another episode (citation needed?), Plankton mentions Squidward having worked at the Krusty Krab for 20 years and never learned the formula. If the old Krusty Krab commercial was made right when the restaurant started, and Squidward was its first employee (s5e2 “The Original Frycook”), that would mean Spongebob is likely at least 20 years old.

This means the minimum ages of Spongebob and Squidward would be 20 vs 34, if you only take into account these specific episodes. This is of course, incongruent with the modern spinoffs having Squidward and Spongebob grow up in the same neighborhood and summer camp.
