Blaugust 15: Rubber gloves

Rubber gloves rock for all purposes. Breathing masks also rock. I curse everyone who made fun of me for wearing them! I would like to practice writing low stakes blog posts. So here we go.

But WHY rubber gloves

I have that rizz'em 'tism where I don't want to do certain things because it makes me feel physically ill. That sensory overload. But rubber gloves help me accomplish such things, they're my +5 gauntlets that make me WANT to do tasks!!!

Tasks I can do with rubber gloves:

  • Clean the dishes
  • Take out the trash
  • Empty the litter boxes
  • Garden with wet stuff like dirt and water
  • Tidy-up the house.

And face masks go very well with the rubber gloves while doing such cleaning duties.

I not only have the rizz'em 'tism, I get very bad physical reactions to a LOT of things. Like, I walk by Bed Bath and Beyond and start getting dizzy and passing out. Or someone has the air freshener on in the car, or the air conditioner is on too high, and I start getting nauseous and losing consciousness. Or some dude walks by with Axe body spray and I start vomiting. Or I do any sort of cleaning and the dust makes me so allergic that I knock out for the rest of the day. No joke!!! I've never seen the doctor about such things, maybe I should. But for now, I know that masks help me do better in the horrible human world of smellz.

Poopoo heads

When I was in college, I had a roommate who made fun of me on the first day for wearing gloves (“so dainty!! do you think it's toxic?”) while washing the dishes. That made me self-conscious! But now that I think back on it, they were sort of the crust punk type to wear poo-covered boots in bed. Different strokes.

Similarly, in middle school, there was a rich blonde girl who made fun of me for wearing the same shoes every day. “Don't you have any other shoes?” Damn girl why are you going to the low-income school and being the only white person there to make fun of our poorbie shoes?! I also went to her house once and her mom wouldn't let me have any of the bottled water, and made me drink from the faucet. That made me feel weird because my parents taught me not to drink water from the faucet. My parents probably taught me that because “it's dirty” because they immigrated from a country where the tap water was indeed unclean 99% of the time.

When I was at the veterinarian in the last couple of years, I was sitting in the waiting room. Some guy walks in and starts hollering about “can you believe I saw some jackass wearing a mask outside? What are you afraid of?! How do you even live in the real world being afraid of everything?”, then he looked at me (wearing mask) and then kept talking to the receptionist. The receptionist kept saying “uh huh that's right” to the weird loud dude. I guess she didn't really entirely agree with him but her job is to keep the peace so the weird loud dudes don't raise a ruckus. But that's kinda weird that I'd be the troublemaker if I said anything about weird loud dudes talking shit about people wearing protective gear.

I feel like all the examples I have in this post are kinda racially charged LOL. It's very common and very normal in many Asian cultures to wear masks and gloves for all sorts of things - whether it's masking while getting groceries, or idk wearing gloves while working with bleach in the bathroom. There's just a certain type of cleanliness that I was raised with. And some people of European descent are raised with things like “you can wear shoes ON THE BED” think it's stupid to wear gloves or masks or helmets or whatever. They call it OCD or something, but I don't personally have that disorder out of the 5000 other disorders I have, I just turn red and puffy if something abrasive lands on me. Also I don't want to die of airborne viruses or asbestos inhalation. I just want to live man.

scoutchan_full_ref.jpg

Scout-Chan is a famous mask wearer. More proof that she's Asian for being the only person masked up on a Sunday afternoon?!?!

uhhh

I wish I had a fancy reusable mask/filter/thingy, and then I could put some fun design on it. Like a clown mouth. Or magikarp or something. Right now I just have black n95's we got in bulk.

I'm currently using extremely thick big blue rubber gloves I got from a store that sells bulk/returned items. I bought like 4 pairs of those gloves for 50 cents each. Those same type of gloves are like $10 on Amazon LOL. They've lasted me very well, they don't get easily cut open by knives or forks like thinner gloves, and they're insulated so I can wash dishes under high heat. I got one pair for the kitchen, one pair for the bathroom, one pair for outside… it kinda rocks to have gloves for different purposes and think about cross-contamination.

I should get some long-ass shoulder length gloves… thotty scientist gloves for handling dead people 413p1vv8fbl._ac_.jpg.

It's really weird to think about how “wearing rubber gloves while handling corrosive chemicals” is looked down upon in certain cultures. It's not just a toxic straight masculinity thing “lol what are you GAY for wearing protection???”. I've been told by lots of non-straight non-dudes that I'm silly/prissy/high maintenence (basically GAY/feminine as a pejorative in the gay community lol?) for wearing gloves or masks. I personally like having my hands intact, and not melted off and turning red and bleeding. I personally like not having diseases (ask me about the weird pre-covid we got during 2020/2019 that left our entire house debilitated for a week).

Idk different strokes I guess I respect our differences. Some people think it's gay to wear helmets while biking or skating. Some people think it's gay to wear seatbelts while in a car. Some people think it's gay to wear a condom during sex and you should just idk deal with pregnancy i guess??? Some people think it's gay to look both ways before crossing the street. Some people think it's gay if you don't take on the dare to put firecrackers up your butthole. Yeah man, sure! I'm gay and I'm proud!

I wish i wore gloves :( I vividly remember being like 10 or 11, and my mom sweetly asking me to do the dishes; I always listened! but what's always stuck with me is how she said to me “don't forget to wear gloves, you don't want your hands to end up like mine” And. Idk. It's a memory that makes me sad, because presently, my mom's hand are not aesthetically pleasing, but the underside of her hands is so soft, and I love my mom's beautiful, silky hands… Random memory triggered by your commentary xd but yeah, gloves are important, I just haven't found a pair strong enough to handle my heavy duty cleaning and MAD GRIP.

My hands got blisters from my moping, the skin is weirdly wrinkly, and it's not something that bothers me, but the words of my mom come back in those moments, after I'm done scrubbing, cleaning, washing, anything. It's not common to have dishwashers in Mexico, and I don't see the use of having such a machine. Still, i kinda wish i found the right pair of gloves for me and my mom.

I ALSO HATE SHOES INSIDE HAHAHAHAAHA but that's just. VERY LOGICAL? Idk, i don't understand why would anyone wear shoes in the house and go to bed wearing them, it's unsanitary. And idk if you do this, but i also have like… a set of clothes for “going outside”, and another set for “being indoors” - i did that way before covid, which I got from my mom… Mom posting time?

Anyways, those gloves look COOL!!! super strong, and dense. I also do the dishes with HOT water (very hot), and I know it's gonna mess me up, but it's the best way to destroy those grease stains that don't wanna come away.

Awww. Wish I wore gloves u.u Now I want to clean something :-?

damn those are like man ray gloves! you could do an amazing closet cosplay with em! i wear gloves when doing dishes cause my skin gets so bad and my eczema flairs when i dont. i think a lot of white ppl don't wear gloves cause they're spoiled by having had a dishwasher their whole lives, so they don't understand the purpose of gloves. cause i bet they'd understand if they had to wash 1 full sink of dishes 🧤

ill have to remember to go to u for glove recs. misc is the dishes czar of the house, and they've used so many different types of gloves we find at stores (grocery stores, target, walmart, etc.) BUT THEY ALL GET HARD AND BREAK! OR GET A TINY, DAINTY HOLE AND STOP BEING USEFUL FOREVER!! we're trying plumbing gloves cause i saw someone recommend em as not having the stiff & easily puncturable problem, so if these fail, misc is gonna have to man ray it up!

elastometric masks are nice, but id def recommend trying one on first before investing since a lot of ppl find they have a hard time getting em to fit their face. if theres a “still coviding” group or a maskbloc in ur state, that might be the best way to find someone with a model you're interested in. plus sometimes ppl are willing to sell or give theirs away in these groups for wayyy cheaper or free

I never had a dishwasher growing up, I only just got one while living with Shane?! So it makes sense that a lot of my well off peers never handwashed their stuff… or I guess even worked janitor/kitchen duty where they'd WANT to wear gloves lest their arms get blasted off. And the dishwasher doesn't get everything off, ya gotta get your hands deep in the coffee cup sometiems!

You actually just reminded me that I have eczema too. So THAT'S why I turn red and bulbous when exposed to anything!

The gloves I got are similar to this pair at target, I'm 500% sure they're a generic kind that gets sold under different names at different stores. They are a bit stiff, but that's probably cuz they only come in one size (large) and I have tiny baby hands. Still, I can work pretty well in them!

I'll have to look into a maskbloc near me, I wouldn't mind getting a big gasmask looking mask and make everyone around me mad that I'm not breathing their stank :P I've had varying issues with different masks cuz I have dat asian bone structure (lower nose, higher cheeks), so I def will fit up before I invest!

SamiferSamifer, 2025/08/19 08:31

We're always masking in buildings and I can definitely feel a weird hostility coming from some people which is crazy. My fave (sarcasm!!!) is people working at idk bakeries or gas stations who act like they can't understand what you're saying because of the mask and get pissed at you about it. Joke's on you I haven't gotten sick in like 3 years!!!

Before this post I hadn't considered the fact that gloves can shield you from very high temperature… As someone with dishes autism I find this very interesting… Unfortunately I feel like I have an opposite form of tism where I need to be able to feel what I'm doing and the sensory deprivation of gloves upsets me asdaqfasgasf. But also being able to wash dishes at max heat… Much to think about…

scumsuckscumsuck, 2025/08/19 18:20

Sensory overload vs deprivation autism is REAL. I generally like to be able to feel things when I'm gardening or making art, so I'll often go gloveless for those activities! But yeah I love max heat washing, it really blasts that food crud off. I think the kind of gloves I have has “cotton flocking” so it has fair insulation! Probably not as much as oven mitts, but def much better than the regular gloves you can get at the super market that melt as soon as you turn the hot water on :P

People are SO BIZARRE!! The anti mask ppl are insufferable. It hurts even more from LGBT ppl… Like… Can we care… About other people?? I wear masks to cons/busy public transport/friends + family with autoimmune diseases/when I'm sick and the way people harrass or mock you is insane!

I can't even defend the eu LOL Irish ppl have poor hygiene standards 😵‍💫 I'm hoping with time the bullies will go away bc I love masking!! I will have to look into those gloves bc the thin ones drive me mad.

scumsuckscumsuck, 2025/08/19 18:10

It's actually ridiculous that gay nerds will go to conventions, intentionally not mask, and then complain 2 days later that they got the same disease as everyone else LOL. Even before COVID-19 it was just accepted that everyone got sick at cons and laughed off. And now in 2025 when everyone's supposed to be more knowledgeable about airborne diseases? Silly!

HollowLeye HollowLeye , 2025/08/19 03:44

People are really dumb about this kinda thing.I have been made fun of for both and it sucks.I'm literally in the medical field and no one masks up anymore. I'm the only one left in the hospital. I'm glad I'm not the only who wears gloves for certain things as well. Cat litter box for sure. It just makes sense to not want to touch the gross things!!

scumsuckscumsuck, 2025/08/19 03:54

It sucks when even the doctors make fun of us for masking up! I hope the surgeons mask up during surgery… God forbid i find a booger or french fry in my ribs!

HollowLeye HollowLeye , 2025/08/19 04:07

It's so stupid!!! It doesn't affect you, just be chill and don't point it out. It's cool to be safe and considerate about the people around you. Especially if they have medical problems and are old.

Surgery is one of the few times they're required to… Otherwise I think people would opt if they could. Man… Talking about surgeries brings me back. I miss going up to the ORs, masked up and gloves. Didn't have to interact with people too much and now said anything about my load out. At least at the hospital I worked at they were pretty good about hygiene up in the OR. Only acceptable place for food is the tummy and only when awake. I don't need those doctors trying to feed me while I'm asleep.

scumsuckscumsuck, 2025/08/19 18:09

Luckily for me the human clinic I've been in has been good about the doctors and receptionists masking! They even have free masks for you to wear if you forget. IDK if the area the hospitals are in makes a difference… the vet clinic I was at was a “nice” one, and the human clinic was in a lower income neighborhood.

HollowLeye HollowLeye , 2025/08/19 22:54

It wildly varies, it really depends on who is running the clinic…I'm glad you found a clinic that still cares. I just wish more did 😞
