This is an old revision of the document!

Links

Head out into the world wide web, and have fun looking through my HIGH QUALITY HAND-CURATED links. Rather than just paste links in a list, I like to talk about why I wanted to share them.

Some links may be 18+ and NSFW, and I'll attempt to label them as such. Linking does not imply complete endorsement of the site or person running the site. At the very least, I try to make sure there's no fucked up stuff like anti-vax shit or hate speech.

This space used to be on my site but I think this wiki format is more suited for me hoarding links.

Tools

Static Site Generators

I don't know how to explain or use SSGs. But they're like… code that help you make a site by converting their language (that can utilize stuff like repeating headers, footers, markdown) into plain HTML. Then you upload that to your host. SSGs are not intuitive if you're less computer-savvy, because these never have a graphical interface with buttons that tell you what they do. You're gonna be typing a bunch of shit into the terminal and not knowing what that shit means. I keep looking for “easy SSGs” but they're all too complex and mucho texto for my caveman ass.

Anyways. Here's some SSGs I want to try using.

  • Phantomake : a small and simple SSG.
  • kiki: Dependency-free SSG with wiki mode
  • Phraxos: Wiki SSG with backlinks, orphan pages, and a page that lists all pages on your site.

CMS

Another evil way to make a blog. I think GENERALLY a CMS helps you manage your posts, and provides an interface (usually??) for inputting the title, tags, and writing so you don't have to manually organize a bunch of markdown files.

PHP

CSS Libraries

  • Terminal UI: If you want to look like hackerman in thigh highs and cat ears. Threatens genAI use though.
  • Smoll CSSS: Simple CSS snippets to help center stuff and make things responsive.

Design

  • Mac Themes Garden: An archive of classic Mac themes with color palettes and downloads.

Etc

Tools + Resources

Creative

Fandom

  • Auto AO3 App: Tool for finding AO3 events, and looking through prompts.
  • fan @ resources: List of fannish resources for site building by aroceu.

Music

  • Moby Gratis: Free music by that bald dude Moby for you to use. Funny limitation on right-wing and meat-eating content.

Tech

  • End of 10: Since Windows 10 is no longer supported, this site should help you upgrade to Linux.
  • Tech Independence: Step by step tutorial for tech independence - “not depending on any particular company or software” - for sites, email, storage….
    • an excerpt that struck me about web design: “It’s important to know how to make a simple website by hand, and not let people sell you on complex solutions that are the equivalent of saying you need a jumbo jet when you really need a bicycle. For real tech independence, start by typing your HTML files yourself. Only later, after you have many many pages, consider a more complicated solution.”

Web

  • Tumgag: View Tumblr posts without logging in.

Writing

  • Ellipsus: Writing software, apparently good for converting fics to AO3 lol.
