Rating: 4/5
Website: https://www.instagram.com/slutfest919/
Income: ~$400, +$50 from last time.
Expenses: Table was $25 a 10×10 spot in the parking lot. I also spent $50 I made there on others' art :) Gas to travel was $25.
Provided: Just the space outside! Could park for a very short amount of time to unload our display stuff.
Pros:
- Slutfest is always fun! The bands are cool, the artists are cool, the drag and wrestling are cool. You get to sit back, make back the cost of tickets and travel, and enjoy a full day and night of entertainment.
- 2nd time around means we know what to expect for the most part, and could prep for the area.
- We got anointed the official caricature artists :D So they tagged us before the show on the soc med posts and poster… cool. Got to make signs specific for that so people would know to look for us.
- A customer said they already follow me online, and have some of my pillowcases already! It's always really cool what a small world it is of “people who like sexy big titty Jason Voorhees pillowcase”.
- Highlight was the band Bat begging us to stay longer to draw them right at the end of the vendor fair hours (7pm). They made good mean-mog faces to draw, that's how you can sus out people who perform for a living. Laughed a bit cuz I could tell who the drummer was cuz he got in place behind the guy who took the seat first.
- The booth across from us had free water for everyone LOL now that's mutual aid.
- We got to publicly talk shit about Galaxy Con with people who went and confirmed that they shut off the public drinking fountains lmao.
- Pretty good traffic! I had a line waiting for my caricatures at the end of the day. I guess that's a sign to “raise prices” or offer smaller options so I can draw faster.
Cons:
- Outdoors-only spaces for vendors means it's HOT in one of the hottest months in the year. Bands seemed to have gotten merch space inside the venue, which makes sense since the bands play inside.
- Seemed a little slower than the Half-Baked event in April, maybe half the crowd size? Only a couple of wrestlers this time, vs how the whole day during Half-Baked was like 10 or 15 matches. Maybe because they were “sold-out” of tickets and had a lower maximum occupancy this time. Maybe 2 events in one year = hard to make it to both? We made more $ this time though, so I'm wondering how well we'd do with the bigger crowd of the previous event.
- Vendor spaces were assigned beforehand on a map, but everything changed once we got there. We got a different spot because someone was in my spot, then someone arrived later than us and turns out we took their spot, so they had to find another spot somewhere else. That person seemed sad/mad. I think they ran over a traffic cone in the venue at the end of the day too. Would have liked for the map to be static for less confusion. We planned our booth layout to accommodate for being in the middle of other folks, and we had to improvise a little within our corner spot
Would you go again?:
Yep! There's nothing quite like SLUTFEST. It's a great party of everything I love in one place. Would probably only do the cooler months if it's held multiple times a year, especially because I live 3 hours away.
