-====== Blaugust 22: ode to a fella, boomer rock ======+====== Blaugust 22: ode to a fella, John Redcorn's playlist ======
+
+I found some of the John Redcorn playlists online a bit lacking, only being 10 songs long or missing crucial things like Nancy's ringtone or Winger. So I compiled my own playlist from this reddit post, this youtube comment, tune find, and the wiki for King of The Hill.
+
+This playlist is a combination of John's music that he listens to, the music him and Nancy have sex to, the other character'boomer tastes, and song/band references. It's mostly 70's-80's dad rock. Now, what DOES dad rock mean to John Redcorn's character?
+
+===== But why male models? =====
+
+Tiktok says divorced dad rock is more 90's grunge and Smash Mouth shit, but what the hell, because those dads are way too young and not in interest range. My definition of dad rock is an umbrella term for classic rock, heavy metal, and shit you'd just hear playing way too often on the radio. This is when the dads in my interest range were in their heyday! They thought dudes with big hair playing in tight pants and makeup, tonguing each other onstage was cool! They were young in the 70's/80's, but now that it's the late 90's/early 2000's (the time range of KOTH) they feel nostalgia for the time they considered peak.
+
+There's the surface reading of "dad rock is for cool dads" It's the imagery of BEING the cool dudes in the dad rock band. Doesn't David Lee Roth look COOL dancing around with his ass out and banging so many chicks? Isn't it fucking SICK that Jimi Hendrix plays with his teeth and it sounds like a bunch of bees in your hat and then he bangs so many chicks? Doesn't John Redcorn look COOL driving in his Jeep with his hair flowing in the wind, with Nancy's big blonde hair bustin' out the top? Mr. Steal Your Wife?
+
+
+
+But I'm also fascinated by the self-objectification of dad rock. They're looking like hot chicks not just for themselves or their bandmates or their dude fans (that's gay)... but for the ladies (now that's lesbians)! The basement dwelling machismo in harder metal doesn't allow for them to show nipples or butthole. But this radio-friendly rock allows dudes to get their hair sprayed and their nails done.
+
+
+
+And John is indeed intentionally drawn as tall, dark, and handsome. Especially when he's directly compared to the other flabby pale dads in the show.
+
+
+
+John's got jewelry on (reflecting his somewhat ambiguous Native heritage), he has well maintained flowing hair (not greasy and dirty like Lucky!!), he's well put together, and he's fit and muscular. All you need to look cute for the gals.
+
+BUT! Not is all as it seems. This music was popular eons ago. King of The Hill takes place in the present (of when it aired at least). The type of dad rock John Redcorn enjoys is directly called out as being old and corny by other characters! They hate the music that his band "Big Mountain Fudgecake" plays, and the music really isn't worse than anything else in the show.

-I know you don't really know me +Even while looking for the songs in John's playlist, came across quite a few Reddit posts about how some people may dislike John's character. What the heck???
-I know you don't really care to see me +
-I'm into total affection +
-Not being scared if you never please me+

-You know you really want to lay it down +
really don’t like Redcorn. He’s more tolerable in later seasons, but even on a show with a lot of guys who peaked in HS he seems like a guy who absolutely lives in the past and can’t move on from it

-I know you really want to lay it down +
-Right now+

-Lay it down +But that is indeed what I find so endearing about his character, and what I enjoy seeing in the character design decisions of his looks and music taste! He's still listening to the same music he listened to in high school, still rockin' the jewelry and long hair long after being a Winger roadie, and banging a girl who hasn't committed to him in 14 years. That's just SUCH good divorced dad behavior... and he's not even divorced or legally a dad!
-Lay it down +
-Lay it down +
-Lay it down+

-Under the sheets you will find me +There's a certain "loserdom" after you get past the cool rock star butthole exterior of dad rock that I love so much. The guys who are listening to butt rock have a little loserdom for hanging onto their high school glory days when they're old and bald. The guys IN butt rock fans are kinda losers cuz a lot of them can't move on from their 70's glory days when they're old and bald. Even another fella on my analysis list, Brock Samson, gets made fun of in his show for listening to Led Zeppelin still in the 2000's! They just thought the 70's was cool man... Kinda like how I think the 70's and 80's were cool for music from my millenial viewpoint, except these characters lived it :P
-I know that nothin's for free +
-You take what's good for your pleasin'+Plus, a lot of the songs on John's playlist while he picks up Nancy are about firey passionate (CHEATING) relationships.
+
+**Foreigner - Hotblooded:**
+
+> //Now it's up to you\\
+We can make a secret rendezvous\\
+Just me and you//
+
+** Great White - Rock Me**
+
+> //Ooh, lovin' ain't no crime, oh no\\
+I see your man ain't here, he don't care\\
+Away in the night, he's gone, and we'll move on//
+
+** Pat Benetar - Heartbreaker **
+
+> //You're the right kind of sinner\\
+To release my inner fantasy//
+
+Which is not to take away from the other dad rock that's just about... suckin' and fuckin', or not using a condom (shoutouts to Smooth Up In Ya by Bulletboys. And I REALLY want to know what was going on in Nancy's mind when she set her ringtone to "Cherry Pie" by Warrant!
+
+> //Swingin' in the bathroom, swingin' on the floor\\
+Swingin' so hard, forgot to lock the door\\
+In walked her daddy, standin' six foot four\\
+Said, "You ain't gonna swing with my daughter no more"//
+
+Suffice to say they're "swinging" in a sort of... consensual way with Dale. Though I do think in a woke world they COULD be a throuple and all raise Joseph. But also "she's my Cherry Pie"? Hell yeah, cuz Nancy's not the Cherry Pie. Nancy's boys are! The joke is that she's the dom and maybe even giving both her partners the strap because she likes Dale being submissive and showing his ass. It's not really a joke cuz it's not that funny it just makes me go hahah cool when girls put it up dude butts.

-'And I know you only want romance' +I'mma do a RapGenius breakdown of why this song gives me SUCH a good John Redcorn/Nancy/Dale AMV in my head.

-Yeah yeah yeah

-Lay it down +Great way to introduce how the average middle-class population people of Arlen, including the wives like Nancy, see John Redcorn. They only go to see him for "massages" during headaches. Otherwise, they just see him as the Native American dude who lives in a trailer in the woods. They don't care to know more about his past, his current needs, his future wants! Even his closest friend Dale often talks over him and makes racist/stereotyping remarks.
-Lay it down +
-Lay it down +> //I'm into total affection\\
-Lay it down +Not being scared if you never please me//
-Lay it down +
-Lay it down +"Total affection" as in the sort of love that John desires (a child, a wife, a home), but doesn't quite get. In that way, "you never please me" can refer to how he's 36-40 years old and still being used as just a gigolo by Nancy and other women.
-Lay it down +
-Lay it down +> //Under the sheets you will find me//
-
+
+John and Nancy have been having an affair for 14 years, but it seems almost purely sexual on her side - at least from the snippets we see from the show. We don't really see them on normal dates or just doing couple things, almost all their interactions are based on sneaking around or her calling him when Dale's being annoying. So "under the sheets" is the only place you'll find John Redcorn, even literally in the first couple of seasons most of his sightings are him picking up Nancy or sneaking into her house.
+
+> //I know that nothin's for free//
+
+A little double entendre here for the song and me making a John Redcorn AMV! In the context of the song by itself, it's about how a relationships are very transactional. One person may want sex, so they'll have to do a wine and dine and date ritual to court that from the other person. With a Redcorn lens on it, his love isn't "for free" because he's being paid for his "massage" services. And the companionship he wants from Nancy isn't free either, because he has to pay with the semen she desires to milk from his balls.
+
+> //You take what's good for your pleasin'\\
+I'll take what's good for this crazy evening//
+
+Reinforcing the theme of the other person in this song only wanting selfish sex, and nothing else. While the singer will take what he is offered, because he's a bit of a wet soggy doggie. John doesn't quite make demands of other people. He's a service (forbidden vers as his job demands????!) in that way. He even politely asks Dale "would you mind?" after Dale strongly implies that he'll help him take down the US government.
+
+> //And I know you only want romance\\
+I'll give you all that I can//
+
+In this case, I highly suspect that the term "romance" used in this song is not the modern definition of "gushy mushy romantic love", but the more classical definition as "//a quality or feeling of mystery, excitement, and remoteness from everyday life//." This is exactly the sort of "romance" that Nancy wants from John Redcorn - a respite from her boring everyday life with nasty little Dale. It's exciting for Nancy to run around in the dark with John, and because he's one of the few non-white non-middle class people in Arlen he is treated as the "other", as an exotic person with that air of mystery. Nancy might be a fetishizer-chaser! And even so, John still gives all that he can. He occasionally will attempt to correct the townsfolk on their inaccuracies and stereotypes, but he still wants to be part of their community and occasionally goes to the local Methodist church even. And he'll still be giving Nancy that good bung after she says some racially charged shit about him looking like "a sexy wounded bear"
+
+> //If you give me just one chance\\
+To prove myself\\
+In love//
+
+In the context of the song, you can read these lines as the singer trying to get more out of the relationship than just this one night stand. It's a very interesting perspective in this song, especially in the era of 70's-80's metal machismo where a male singer is often making demands for the girls to strip and bend over and what not. Can John Redcorn prove himself as worthy of more than just a weekend booty call, even though he's only being used for his massage services? Is it a foolish errand to try to prove himself in love to Nancy, who's already married (and indeed, in love occassionally!) to Dale?
+
+> //You know you really want to lay it down\\
+Right now//
+
+I believe the chorus of this song is another double entendre. You can "lay it down" as in lay in the sheets aka YAOI SEXO. Or you can lay "IT" down - as in put down the pretenses, and talk honestly and gay-ly without the emotional facades. OR you can lay "IT" down, as in stop fucking around with one night stands and settle down with me! You can also read it as the singer begging the person they're singing to, to "lay IT down" - as in lay mad pipe - as in peg him with a strap on and/or gock. But that's only if you're as insanely big brained as me and can read every song sung by a dude as a femdom tribute. In any case, John deserves all those things he desires! He gets laid so much it makes him sad already, so he doesn't need that. But he does deserve honest emotional conversation, and to settle down as a middle-aged dude, and a strap up the butt, if that's what he wants!
+
+===== Conclusion =====
+
+I'm having way too much fun writing insane headcanons and characterizations for a side character from a comedy cartoon than can be summed as "Boondocks for white culture" But my insanity is based on truth and facts and canon. All this cuz Shane showed me funny video clips... This is what yaoi is all about lads. We like to play with our Barbie dolls and give them crazy personalities and backstories while Ratt plays, and then make our Barbie dolls kiss. I hope you guys have fun playing with your Barbies too :) Holla at me if you wanna play with the King of The Hill doll type.
